Hello! My name is Zulay, but everyone calls me Zuly. I am originally from Colombia, happily married with my husband from Idaho, and mother of two beautiful children. Life brought me to Venezuela in 2006 where I worked as I was a business administrator and had the joy of serving as a youth pastor at my church in Caracas. It was there that I met my beloved husband who was there as a missionary and taught a workshop at my church. After a year and a half of dating, we married and combined forces to work together in ministry. Five years, two kids and one country later, we felt called to be closer to my husband's parents in Texas where we now call home.
Where does my love for cakes come from?
Ever since I was little, I have loved to cook and create all sorts of arts and crafts. While I was a youth pastor, I loved to make cakes and other desserts and have them ready to offer to the church youth during moments of discipleship and counseling. Good advice goes down well with a bit of sweetness in the midst of a bitter moment. I also loved to bake birthday cakes for the families and individuals in our neighborhood where we lived and ministered. Seeing how some were so blessed by a surprise cake, I was contagiously filled with joy that I knew that I wanted to continue to bless others in the same way.
Once we arrived in the US, my husband began working, while I was a stay at home mother, with no knowledge of English in a place where I didn't know anyone. I began to feel alone and aimless. One day I pondered what I could do to recharge my zeal, joy, and be useful while still staying present at home with my kids. I felt God direct my gaze to a corner of the room where a small framed image read "CAKE". A feeling of comfort, joy, and purpose came from that word. "That's it! I can combine my passion for art and the kitchen."
At first, I only made cakes and gave them away as the opportunity presented itself. Happy Birthday! I made you a cake! I tried to improve and expand my techniques by watching YouTube. Every cake was an opportunity to learn something new. When I sold my first cake, I was ecstatic. I saved up everything from those first sales to be able to buy a stand mixer, and haven't looked back since. God has been so good!
Now our menu will additionally have bistro dishes with a lot of flavor and a healthy touch. We include our Colombian coffee and the best part? Everything we serve is made from scratch every day! And you can't forget that we have some dishes with signature of our Colombian roots that you will surely love
